Case Study: GEMS Modern Academy

One of Vegemi’s schools recently kindly shared their experience of the Vegemi method so far. Read more to hear first hand more information about the topics they’ve been studying, how Vegemi has integrated across classrooms and homes, and the positive behavioural changes the children have demonstrated with Vegemi’s help!

We thank GEMS Modern Academy for kindly sharing the report with us.

The initiative began in October 2024. Parents were informed through a weekend newsletter to ensure everyone was on board with our health and wellness goals. Grade 1 students are exploring healthy food through fun, interactive lessons and hands-on activities about nutrition. They can also use the Vegemi app at home, a game-based tool that helps families learn about healthy eating together, promoting nutritious and sustainable habits for everyone.

Our October theme was “Happy Heart.” The students participated in story read-aloud sessions emphasizing the connection between nutrition and heart health. They engaged in a Happy Heart craft activity, reinforcing their learning through hands-on experiences.

The Vegemi tracker is integrated into the Busy Bee book, allowing students to effectively monitor their vegetable intake. Additionally, we introduced a “Passport for Tracking,” which serves as a fun tool for students to document their progress.

In the mornings, children enjoy a fruit snack, supporting healthy eating habits. During our life skills period, we engage in stories and activities focused on developing essential life skills. In November, our focus shifted to “Clever Brain.” We continued with a similar structure, introducing new stories and activities centered around how nutrition affects brain function and cognitive abilities.

Throughout this journey, our students have showcased their commitment to healthy eating during lunch and snack times. They have shared their veggie choices with one another, displaying their colorful plates filled with fruits and vegetables. Many students have tried new vegetables, encouraged each other to take healthy snacks, and even exchanged recipes, all while discussing how these foods help them feel energized and ready to learn. Parents have expressed great appreciation for the Vegemi initiative, noting that it has positively encouraged their children to enjoy fruits and vegetables.

Pictures, videos, and artwork are securely stored on Drive for easy access and organization. Grade 1 students use a Padlet link to share their reflections, while Seesaw serves as a platform for additional student work and activities. This setup supports a comprehensive and interactive learning experience for students.
