Vegemi in Turks and Caicos Islands!

Since September our little Vegemi has landed in the islands of Turks and Caicos, ready to educate lots of new friends about the wonders of fruits and vegetables!
Our partnership has been supported directly by the Department of Education, kindly led by Ms Heidy Williams, Early Education Childhood Officer, and is enabling all primary schools across the island to receive and deliver the Vegemi materials.
Teachers from all schools participated warmly and eagerly in two Vegemi training sessions, delivered in July and September. Their commitment and excitement towards the Vegemi tool was unmatched! In addition, parents were also welcomed to a Vegemi information session in October, to support the use of Vegemi in children’s home environments and the continuation of learning and healthy habits outside of school.
In line with global trends, Turks and Caicos are concerned with improving children’s daily intakes of fruits and vegetables, decreasing consumption of ultra-processed foods, and ensuring that their educational model provides comprehensive health and wellbeing education. Vegemi is the perfect fit for achieving these ambitions, and we’re excited to track the development and outcomes of the project.
Ms. Heidy Williams, Early Education Childhood Officer of the Department of Education says “The Early Childhood Unit in the Turks and Caicos Islands is pleased to announce a collaboration with ‘Vegemi’ to promote the importance of a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables for children’s growth and development. This initiative aims to provide parents and children with the information and resources they need to make healthier food choices.
We hope to raise awareness about the importance of fruits and vegetables in promoting children’s physical and cognitive development through educational workshops, engaging activities, and simple nutritional resources. We believe that encouraging healthy eating habits early in life will result in a brighter, healthier future for our children”.
Dr Laura Holland, Co-Founder of Vegemi says “It has been a privilege to collaborate with The Early Childhood Unit in the Turks and Caicos, under the expert care and guidance of Ms Heidy Williams, providing children with the opportunity to play, learn and be inspired to make food choices that nourish their health and wellbeing, thanks to fun and games with Vegemi! The entire team, teachers and parents have been a joy to collaborate with, and I am confident that together we are creating a healthier future for the children of Turks and Caicos.”
