Vegemi: Gamified Food Education with ImpactÂ
Vegemi delivers evidence-based food and nutrition education to EYFS and KS1, creating understanding about microbiome, health and food choices. By integrating engaging tools and pedagogy, we empower families to make informed dietary decisions—supporting long-term health and sustainability. With proven impact we encourage children to “feed their Vegemis” whilst creating new understanding.
Impact & Scalability Assessment
Vegemi transforms early food education through fun, gamified learning that helps young children understand nutrition, microbiome health, and healthy eating habits. Proven across Finland, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, it changes food choices and boosts wellbeing. With both screen-free and XR options, its adaptable, multilingual model enables broad implementation in schools, homes, and communities.
HundrED Academy Reviews
“Vegemi’s early-years nutrition education in Finland and Saudi Arabia has shown outstanding cultural adaptability. Through microbiome-focused storytelling and interactive learning, children develop lifelong food awareness.”
“Vegemi’s modular, ready-to-use structure, low onboarding threshold and flexibility across diverse educational and cultural contexts makes it scalable. The option to use digital XR tools or screen-free methods makes it more adaptable.”

About the Innovation:
Why did you create this innovation?
The rise of the ultra processed food consumption and health crisis following impacts every part of our lives: health, mental wellbeing, ability to learn, to have a good life. 40% of the children in the US have at least one (!) chronic disease and globally we see rapid growth of T2D and obesity among children.Â
At the same time studies indicate that adding only 66g (a child’s portion) of fruit or vegetables daily decreases the risk of T2D by 25%, whilst providing health benefits and creating the basis for a more balanced microbiome.Â
Yet impactful food and nutrition education lacks – not to mention education about microbiome and how it keeps it thriving and protecting us. Eating behaviour is in the core of it all, and we need ways to engage children in new healthy habits! This is urgent and cannot wait: this is when Vegemi steps in.Â
What does your innovation look like in practice?
The Vegemi method has been co-created with the city of Espoo, Finland. It is a ready-to-use-platform of holistic modules with proven and impressive impact on the understanding of the impacts of the food we eat, understanding about healthy microbiome and the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables consumed.Â
After easy onboarding, we offer the educators everything they need to deliver play-based, storied food and nutrition education lessons on 14 different themes related to microbiome, health, mental health and sustainability. We offer the possibility to add XR elements to gamify eating real fruits and vegetables, but we also provide a completely screen-free option and ways to engage parents, with the impact being clearly visible at home as well.
“I don’t know how you do it, but my child asked for broccoli for breakfast, because “Vegemi likes it so much!” Parent feedback
“The materials are versatile, visually delightful and exciting for children. The instructions are clear and it really is a ready to go package whilst being easy to adjust to the needs of the group of children. Even children who wouldn’t always be interested are keen to join in. A truly functional and exciting programme.” – Teacher Testimonial, Finland.
“Children connect strongly to Vegemi. Even those children who aren’t always focused know, for example, which superpowers they’ll get. There has been a noticeable change in the food children bring into school to healthier options” – Teacher Testimonial, Saudi Arabia.
How has it been spreading?
In Finland Vegemi is used in three of the five biggest municipalities in their early years education, as well as in Public health in one of the biggest wellbeing areas (dental appointments). Many municipalities use the free of charge version of Vegemi.Â
In UAE Vegemi is collaborating with the Ministry of Health to create nutrition education for children and families, targeting children with learning developments, disabilities or are at risk of disability, and private schools that use Vegemi as part of their education.Â
In Turks&Caicos and British Virgin Islands it’s part of the national curriculum.
In the UK we collaborate with municipalities under the HAF programme for underprivileged children.Â
In Kenya we are piloting a localised version of Vegemi, highlighting a specific need for an NGO.Â
The city of Tampere is applying for the Milan Pact Awards (MPA) with Vegemi Method implementation.Â
How have you modified or added to your innovation?
The innovation has been modified to suit the needs of dental health check ups, in collaboration with Pirha, wellbeing area of Finland, with good initial impact.Â
